MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2008) – Chase Miller and the No. 9 Verizon Wireless/Motorola team raced to a career-best sixth place finish on Saturday in the Kroger 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park.
“Wally (Rogers, Crew Chief) and Mike (Wolf, Car Chief) did an awesome job calling the race today,” said Miller. “The Verizon Wireless/Motorola pit crew did a great job and helped keep us on the lead lap for the entire day. This was a great run and we hope for a couple more just like this to end the season.”
Miller started the race in the 21st position and was able to reach the top-10 by lap 75. The No. 9 team reached a race high third position by lap 135. Miller was racing in the fourth position in the closing laps, when two cars behind him were able to pass with fresh tires as the race came to the checkered flag.
“Some of the other teams were able to save their tires and go out on sticker (new) tires right there at the end,” Miller explained. “We had scuffs (older tires) left and we lost a little bit there at the end, but we finished strong.”
Miller’s No. 9 Verizon Wireless/Motorola Dodge was one of seven cars to cross the finish line on the lead lap. The No. 9 Dodge raced on the lead lap for the entire race.
“We had a good racecar, kept our nose clean and came home sixth. We’re excited about the finish and now want to carry some momentum to Texas Motor Speedway next weekend.”
Miller’s previous career-best was an eighth place finish at Darlington on May 9, 2008.
The No. 9 Dodge climbed two positions to 13th in the 2008 owner standings, 18 points behind the 12th position.
